Wilfred Torralba Alinas, educated as an accountant, showed his early interest in art when he drew his aunt’s portrait and frequented the art strips of Mabini St. to watch his favorite artists and their works. Mostly self-taught, he was introduced to the works of Rembrandt, Degas, Velasquez and the Canadian wildlife artist Fenwick Lansdowne thru books. Alinas discovered the versatility of colored pencils and used it to show his partiality to classic realism in strong chiaroscuro as he interprets wildlife, human interest and still life.
His love for art paved his way to Canada. He failed to garner enough points to qualify for immigration as an accountant but passed when he was re-assessed as an illustrator/artist.
His joining the Stanley Park artists group in 1984-1986 exposed his works to thousands of visitors. His works are now widely collected, a testimony of the public’s acceptance of his art. Wilfred is one of the newest but also one of the most active and concerned members of the Philippine Artist Group of Canada.
