Rol P. Lampitoc’s paintings, including three portraits of past presidents-America’s Harry Truman and the Philippines’ Carlos Garcia and Diosdado Macapagal, have the unique quality of communicating with each viewer and have earned the awe and respect of discriminating collectors for his art. He has exhibited in Manila, Tokyo, Detroit and New York, as well as in Ottawa, Montreal, Windsor and Collingwood in Canada-his adopted country.
A quintessential impressionist, Lampitoc works with pen-and-ink, oils, watercolors and acrylics, but his métier is pastels-he was the first Canadian artist to become a member of the Pastel Society of America. In 1989, he won the National Award from the Pastel Society of Canada for “Love,” a pastel painting of a mother and child. More recently he has worked on perfecting his technique in serigraphy. His paintings are extensions of himself, reflecting his roots, which-like his native Philippines-have been defined by the blend of many cultures.
Rol has won numerous awards, including that from his favorite venue, the Blue Mountain Foundation of the Arts’ Juried Shows in Collingwood, Ontario, and his works can be found in the Philippines, the United States and Canada among private collections as well as in boardrooms, colleges and universities and hospitals. Rol is one of the acknowledged masters and a founding member of the Philippine Artists Group of Canada.
