Jomedi “Joey” Rollo, a newer member of Philippine Artists Group of Canada, represents the new breed and vision of the group in its objective of instilling pride in the Filipino heritage as it blends into the Canadian cultural collage. His passion for art was forged early, inheriting his aesthetic genes from his dad who was a graphic artist, Joey graduated from PWU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, major in Advertising.
The next few years saw him immersed in the furniture and houseware industry, where his creative talents found fulfillment as he helped companies produce a wide variety of products using uncommon materials from steel, iron and other metals to wood, rattan, reeds, etc. In between his business schedules, he retreated into his home in Laguna indulging in his passion for painting. His creations are now in private and corporate collections in the Philippines.
In Canada, his talent is gradually but steadily finding recognition. Joey, venturing into modern impressionism, held his first solo exhibition in Canada at the new Philippine Consulate Gallery in Toronto. Entitled “A Touch of Nature,” the show highlighted the magic of his lines and colourful brush strokes seem to say “In my views of the world, I invite you to enjoy with me.”
