Inocentes Magpusao or Entes, a self-taught artist, started as a comics and magazine illustrator in the late fifties. He was eventually drawn into the circle of National Artists, HR Ocampo and Cesar Legaspi and nonetheless found in them the needed nurturing and encouragement that kept him
to pursue his dream as a serious artist. His joining the Saturday Group of Artists, where individual styles are encouraged and helpfully commented upon, graduallys honed his talent and self-confidence.
As an artist with initial roots in illustration, Entes will do almost anything with a deep sense of artisanship – from mural commissions to cover designs and pen and ink illustrations. And, even his portraits which are always viewed with a sort of artistic ambiguity. All these are for him, simply a part of the total artist.
Nowadays, Entes directs the creative thrust of the Tuesday Group in the spirit of Ocampo and Legaspi – perhaps not with the same authority – but certainly, with the same concern and generosity towards young and aspiring artists.
