Calixto “Toots” Quiachon started drawing even before going to school. His talent got early recognition when his teachers asked for his help in doing their visual aids. In high school, he already started to paint in oils and watercolours and did charcoal illustrations.
Determined to be an artist, Toots majored in advertising at the College of Fine Arts, University of Santo Tomas. While still in school, he worked as a part time artist designer. After graduating, he became a graphic artist, visualizer, art director for various advertising and publishing firms in Manila. His love for art found some fulfillment when he started joining sketching sessions with some of his fellow artist workmates and some of the country’s known talents. Later on, Toots participated with them in a number of group shows.
Encouraged to work abroad as a graphic designer he went to Bahrain, Dubai and Lebanon where he continued to paint and whenever opportunity allowed, he joined various art groups and participated art exhibitions. In 1996 He migrated to Canada with his family and while working as a graphic designer, he joined with Philippine Artists Group of Canada. His competence and dedication to the group was recognized when he got elected as president in 2004. His works are now in private collections in the Philippines, the Middle East, USA and Canada. Active as he is, he continues evolving in his artistic visions.
